Elena Beltrán (Madrid, 1981) joined in 2005 the research center Applied Medicine (CIMA) of the University of Navarra to do her PhD at thesis in the laboratory of Oncology. She has also completed the doctoral program in Biopharmacology, Pharmacology and Drug Quality of the department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra.

The doctoral thesis defended last Tuesday, April 27, is entitled degree scroll 'Therapeutic inactivation of the CCND1 oncogene in human and murine cellular models of Mantle Cell Lymphoma' and was directed by Dr. José Ángel Martínez-Climent.

According to the author of the research, the goal of the thesis has been "to study the possible role of CCND1 as a therapeutic target in MCL. In this project we set out to evaluate the response of various cell lines derived from LCM patients as well as cells obtained directly from LCM biopsies to CCND1 inactivation in vitro. In addition, we studied the possible synergy between cyclin D1 inhibition and pro-apoptotic drugs in vivo and in vitro. Finally, we developed a murine animal model using CCND1 expression in B lymphocytes, whose expression is tetracycline-regulated (CCND1-tetO), and characterized these tumors to determine their possible similarity to human MCL."
