The Auxiliary Bishop of Getafe, Msgr. José Rico, participated in the University of Navarra in a seminar with professors of the School of Theology, focused on "Theology at mission statement", in which he offered some reflections from the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium (January 2019).

During the session, he explained that the reason for this document is to relaunch the ecclesiastical programs of study in the context of the new stage of the Church's mission statement . And he recalled the words of Pope Francis: "The urgent task in our time is for the whole people of God to prepare to undertake with spirit a new stage of evangelization. This requires a determined process of discernment, purification and reform. And within that process, the appropriate renewal of the system of the ecclesiastical programs of study is called to play a strategic role."

Bishop Rico emphasized that there are four tasks that the programs of study Ecclesiastics must carry out in order to relaunch them in the context of mission statement:

1. Elaborate tools, paradigms of action and thought, useful for the advertisement of the gospel.

2. Develop the work of research to create dispositions so that the gospel can be heard by all.

3. Generate specialized centers that deepen the dialogue between different disciplines.

4. To promote long processes of regeneration, taking into account the great cultural, spiritual and educational challenge.

He also explained that the document establishes four fundamental criteria in view of a renewal and relaunching of the contribution of the ecclesiastical programs of study to a Church in missionary outreach: the first, that the ecclesiastical programs of study be inserted into the heart of the evangelical advertisement ; the second, to establish a dialogue at all levels, as an intrinsic requirement to experience communally the joy of truth and to deepen its meaning and practical implications; the third, inter and transdisciplinarity in the light of revelation; and the fourth criterion is the urgent need to create networks between institutions.
