Tecnun hosted a session with IHOBE entitled "The 10 keys in Economics Circular for 2024". The workshop, aimed at teachers of all Departments of Tecnun, has had as goal bring teachers closer to the European trends in Economics Circular for next year.

Carmen Jaca, professor at department of Industrial Organization, explains that the workshop has been useful for teachers to think about how to adapt these European guidelines in their own subjects. The workshop was part of the project Urban Klima2050, in which Tecnun participates, and began with an introduction to the concept of Economics Circular, by Sara Aguado, from the Basque Government's Public Society for Environmental management , IHOBE. One of the purposes of this society is "to improve the environment by inserting environmental criteria in sectorial policies, as an element with sustainable competitive value for our country and its institutions", as Aguado herself pointed out.

After a first part in which Sara Aguado commented on the 10 keys in Economics Circular for 2024, a reflection by groups of Tecnun teachers took place to determine the challenges and opportunities for companies in the territory, as well as the challenges and opportunities for Tecnun. Next, the new competences to be developed by the academic staff and the student body of Tecnun were evaluated. Finally, the opportunities of research and the barriers and difficulties to integrate these lines of work in the university have been estimated.

In the practical workshop with the academic staff to identify the relationship of the 10 keys with their subjects, some of the ideas that came out, as stated by Professor Carmen Jaca, were that "the legislation in Economics Circular is being updated very quickly and it is difficult to keep up to date". On the other hand, Jaca pointed out that "it is important to have reliable data of materials and impact indexes to be able to calculate impacts and life cycle analysis in a truthful way".

As challenge, Tecnun teachers have pointed out that it would be interesting to incorporate knowledge on sustainable materials and processes, and that "we still have work to do with the student body to make them aware of how important it is to recycle and measure the impact of some processes versus others".

The professors have also pointed out that "the design or eco-design is the basis for producing more sustainably" and that another challenge they will have to address in the near future will be to tackle the challenge of seeing what is done with the equipment when it is replaced to be more up-to-date, "leaving equipment that is fine, but is no longer used".

Finally, as strengths, the Tecnun Ecodesign subject , the Sustainability pathway , the lines of research in sustainability, or the group Green Tecnun, among other ideas contributed by the teachers of the School themselves, have been pointed out.
