"I would tell students to look for options beyond what is easy or what they already know."
Second session of the Alumni Experience of School of Economics
alumni from School of Economics on LinkedIn, Amazon, Docusign, Hubspot and Jobandtalent participated in the second staging of the Alumni Experience round table cycle. The alumni shared their experiences in a sector that every day has more employment offers and a greater volume of business: New Technologies.
Javier Unda (ECO'11), Business Development Talent at Jobandtalent, did not hesitate to advise the students "to look for options beyond what is easy or what they already know. Miguel Ángel Zapatero (ECO'14), International Account Manager at Hubspot (Dublin), reminded them that "the only thing that matters is ability and talent; you should not be afraid to leave Spain".
Likewise, Ludovico Mastrocinque (ECO'14), Sales Strategy & Operations Analyst at LinkedIn (Ireland), encouraged students to take the initiative: "You have to awaken restlessness, to focus on what you are really passionate about. Íñigo Arias (ECO'12), Retail Vendor Manager at Amazon (Madrid), stressed the importance of knowing how to manage frustrations in the workplace: "I have learned to know myself, to control myself, to overcome any failure". He also stressed that there is no exact formula for success at work: "No one expects you to just do your job. You have to solve problems, simplify processes or, why not, create new projects".
Alba Gómez (ECO'13), manager development of Docusign Business (Ireland), highlighted the importance of the New Technologies sector in the innovation of the business world: "Consider what technology is meaning for today's companies, the impact is real".
Faced with this new challenge, Miguel Ángel Zapatero recommended that students use LinkedIn to connect with employers for the work positions they want apply for: "The power of networking is abysmal and LinkedIn is the tool to do it".
Javier Unda highlighted "experience" as what companies are looking for in candidates today. For his part, Íñigo Arias encouraged the application of these experiences to the "STAR" (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method to demonstrate to employers the talent and values of the future employee.
