The University of Navarra will offer three double degrees in Communication and Philosophy and Letters starting next year, 2002-2003. Students will be able to study Philology Hispanic and Audiovisual Communication, or combine Philosophy with Journalism or with advertising and Public Relations.

"The Study program allows completion in six years of the programs of study corresponding to the two degrees," said Teresa Sádaba, assistant to the Office of Student Affairs of the School Communication. "At the end of the fourth year, students will have completed the programs of study of the degree program of Philosophy and Letters, as well as the first cycle of Communication. The 5th and 6th years are dedicated to fill in the programs of study of Journalism, Audiovisual Communication or advertising and Public Relations," she specified.

"The new Chairs of thought is not only based at the University, but also in the media. This is why a new exercise of Philosophy is needed in close relation to journalism: philosophers need to have the necessary communicative skills to disseminate their ideas," explained Raquel Lázaro, director of programs of study of the School of Philosophy and Letters.

Regarding the double licentiate degree in Audiovisual Communication and Philology Hispánica, he indicated that "audiovisual communicators recreate reality in the public space of contemporary society, since our daily experience is fed by cultural mediations such as cinema, radio and television. This double degree program allows us to delve into the literary and linguistic roots of different cultures and traditions".

36 positions for 2002-2003

The number of places offered for the next academic year is 36, that is, twelve for each of the double degrees. To be admitted, students must pass the entrance examination of the School of Communication and an interview of the School of Philosophy and Letters.

Raquel Lázaro explained that "each of the degrees consists of 300 credits. However, with this Study program the two degrees are completed by taking 442 credits in the case of Philology Hispanic and Audiovisual Communication; 459 credits for Philosophy and Journalism; or 464 credits when taking Philosophy and advertising and Public Relations. This is feasible thanks to the assimilation between the two Schools in some subjects, to the credits of comparable elective subjects and to free choice credits applied reciprocally".
