"In architecture there is a pleasure prior to materialization, which is ideation. If you enjoy it, you connect with the city, with its history and its way of being", said architect Ignacio Vicens at the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra during the International seminar Exposed concrete: color and expressiveness'..

It is wonderful to go to the construction site while the building is being designed, but only if you have thought about it with magnanimity beforehand," explained Vicens. In each project you have to respond in an original way and know your surroundings; for it to have density, researchis fundamental".

At the seminar, organized by the School and FYM-HeidelbergCement GroupIgnacio Vicens explained the architectural possibilities of concrete: "We like all materials, but concrete is the core of our studio's (Vicens+Ramos) projects".

"The first work we developed with this material was the University's CommunicationSchool , which I like to show you because we are in Navarra and it is very important to us," admitted the architect.

Ignacio Vicens, Full Professor of Architectural Projects at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, confessed himself "privileged" to share his professional degree program with teaching: "I am excited to see the students with perspective. Witnessing how they enter and how they leave, you realize the value of the schools. Objectively, you learn a lot from them."

At the School, students traced lines in their sketchbooks while Professor Ignacio Vicens looked over their shoulders. "Architecture is not easy, because nothing worthwhile is," he acknowledged, "It requires a lot of work, excellence and dedication.

"The best recommendation is the one given by the poet Horace, carpe diem," said the architect when referring to students, whom he advised to "take advantage of the tension that is generated in these years" to learn languages, develop projects and enjoy. Therefore, he insisted: "They have to be permeable and soak up the life that takes place inside and outside the University".
