On the morning of January 3, architect and professor Gil Nebot passed away in Barcelona. Active and vital until the end, Mr. Leopoldo left us quickly and easily in his Clínica del Pilar, after having rejoiced with his presence at the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the School of the University of Navarra, where he was director for twelve years until his retirement.

Born in 1921 in Barcelona and educated in his School under the reference letter of his uncle Francisco de Paula Nebot, he graduated in 1948 and obtained the Chair of projects in 1955, becoming its Director in 1969, in a particularly turbulent time where he always gave sample of his know-how and his gifts for consensus despite having to resign in 1971.

In 1973 he joined the faculty of School of Architecture of the University of Navarra as Full Professor of projects and, since then, his trips to Pamplona were constant and his involvement with the School grew until he was appointed director in 1979. Of his long period at the head of the School, the memory remains that, after a foundational stage, he projected its opening through his presence in national and international forums as well as the organization of a series of lectures by the most important Spanish architects, without forgetting the determined incorporation and promotion as professors of a new generation of architects who, trained in his classrooms, were to give prestige to the School and to Navarre's architecture.

As an architect, his concern for functional rigor and detail were exemplary. He transmitted this in his final year project classes, where the topic was a hospital, as he was always linked to hospital architecture and, after the Clínica del Pilar in Barcelona (1962), he carried out numerous projects and works in Europe and Africa, being one of the references of his specialization program. He also left works in Pamplona, such as phases III and IV of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra , which he built with his son Leopoldo Gil Cornet.

In his later years, he was especially proud of his membership in the Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, where he was University Secretary. A link with the world of culture and heritage that has been exemplary in the Gil family since the nineteenth century, continued alongside his uncle Paco Nebot who preceded him in the Academy, and who was of great importance in the creation of the MNAC.

However, the memory of Mr. Leopoldo transcends the professional and professor. His report is that of a great person, cheerful and generous; a good conversationalist and a wise man in what is truly important in life; capable of betting on his collaborators and always at the service of the idea that important things are not achieved alone but by forming a team, creating a great family like the one he founded together with Quica and around Can Catá, that fantastic noucentista house where every spring he entertained the students of the School. Thank you D. Leopoldo for your full life and for your example of know-how.
