350 medical students participate in an interactive surgery course at the University conference
Live broadcasting of surgeries, a simulation of emergency care and conferences by doctors such as Pedro Guillén and Luis Ley, among other activities
More than 350 students from 18 Spanish universities will meet quotation next February 7, 8 and 9 at the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra in the conference Interactive Surgery for Students (JOICE).. This is the third edition of a congress that includes surgical interventions broadcast live, a simulation of health care in case of emergency, practical workshops and lectures by leading surgeons.
This edition will highlight the interventions of doctors Pedro Guillén, traumatologist and orthopedic surgeon of numerous elite athletes and personalities such as King Juan Carlos or Emilio Butragueño and Fernando Torres; Juan Miguel Gil Jaurena, specialist in minimally invasive pediatric cardiac surgery; and Luis Ley, considered one of the five best neurosurgeons in Spain according to the Forbes list and award to the "best neurosurgeon of the year 2016" in the TopDoctors Awards.
In addition, as usual in this congress for students, live surgeries of various surgical specialties will be displayed at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra. The LIVE surgeriesgoal are an innovative and characteristic format of the JOICE with the aim of bringing the attendees as close as possible to the surgical reality.
An initiation internship to discipline surgicalOn Thursday 7th, a health care drill will take place, where a crisis status will be recreated. The internship, in which 105 students will participate, will have the financial aid of the Zaragoza Military Medical Unit and the participants will have to attend to various wounded people characterized by the Simulation Center of the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra. Firefighters of Navarra, DYA, Red Cross and different security forces such as Municipal Police, Foral Police, National Police and Civil Guard will also take part in the event.
The congress program also offers 26 specialized workshops such as "Excarceration and rescue in traffic accidents", "Microsurgery", "Breast surgery", "Interprofessional communication as a means of avoiding medical error", "Interventional Radiology" or "Introduction to Medical Engineering", among others.
