Urbanism in northern Spain, topic of a workshop at the University of Navarra

Experts to analyze the city models of Navarra, Basque Country, Aragón, Catalonia, La Rioja, Castilla y León, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia

The School of Architecture of the University of Navarra will host tomorrow, Thursday 9, and Friday 10 the I workshop on contemporary Spanish urbanism. Several experts will analyze the experiences of some cities in northern Spain, the communities of Navarra, Basque Country, Aragon, Catalonia, La Rioja, Castilla y Leon, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia.

The inauguration will be followed by a roundtable entitled 'From the Ebro to the Pyrenees', moderated by Laura Rives, expert in the Pamplona urban planning case, with the participation of Abigail Sánchez Velasco (Zaragoza case), Elena Lacilla Larrodé (Huesca case) and José Ramón Bergasa Pascual (Logroño case).

In the afternoon, at 4 p.m., Fernando de Terán Troyano, Full Professor of Urban Planning and member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, will give the lecture 'Contemporary Spanish Urban Planning: general panorama'. Afterwards, there will be another roundtable which will deal with urban planning aspects of the Basque Country. José Luque Valdivia (case of Vitoria), Elías Mas Serra (case of Bilbao) and Izaskun Aseguinolaza Braga (case of San Sebastián) will participate.

The first session on the 10th, at 9.30 a.m., will be a lecture given by Miguel Corominas Ayala, Full Professor of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona, entitled 'El influjo de Barcelona'.
Two other round tables will be held during the workshop . The first will deal with urban planning in the north of Castile. Ana Ruiz Varona (Valladolid case), David Senabre López (Salamanca case) and Gonzalo Andrés López (Burgos case) will speak. The afternoon session will focus on the Cantabrian coast and will be composed of José González-Cebrián Tello (case of La Coruña), Moisés Llordén Miñambres (case of Gijón), Carmen Valtierra de Luis (case of Santander) and Luis Tena Núñez (case of Palma).

The workshop is organized by the department of Urbanism of the University of Navarra and the Government of Navarra.
