The group of research Savia Arquitectura of the University of Navarra has participated in the project Conclimat, in which a housing prototype has been designed that combines high energy efficiency - it offers up to 50% savings in demand - with an optimized cost.

The project is part of the Euroinnova Navarra Program and will be the focus of the conference 'La research and development en la Building sostenible' to be held in Pamplona on March 22 and 23. Among other speakers will be professors from School of Architecture Ana Sánchez-Ostiz, Aurora Monge, César Martín Gómez and Purificación González. visit A visit to the industrialized greenhouse experimental modules located at campus is also planned.

A preview of the results and the program of the conference were presented at press conference. Rafael Muguerza, director of the Innovation and Transfer Service of knowledge of the Government of Navarra; Florencio Manteca, director of department of Building Energetics of the National Renewable Energy Center (CENER), leader of project; Ana Sánchez Ostiz, professor at the University of Navarra and director of group of research Savia Arquitectura, and Rafael Aldai, manager of area of Climate Change, Energy and mobility of the Environmental Resources Center of Navarra (CRANA) participated in the event.

In addition to these entities, the following companies are participating in Conclimat: Abaigar, Acciona Instalaciones, ACR, AH, Miyabi, and Rockwool.

The program of the conference includes three thematic blocks: the first will be devoted entirely to project Conclimat and its results; the second, to real cases and experiences gained in the application of research and development in construction, and the third will provide an overview of research and development+i in the construction sector.

Towards zero energy consumption
The energy efficient project Conclimat is adapted to the climatic conditions of Pamplona and the increase in costs that may be involved in the construction of a building of these characteristics has been avoided by means of development of optimized construction solutions. In this way it is ahead of the European Directive 2010/31/EC, according to which from 2020 all buildings will have to generate almost the same amount of energy that they consume. To achieve this goal, each member country will have to set intermediate targets to be met from 2015.

The directive also indicates that the requirements should be determined in each area in such a way as to achieve an optimal balance between the investments made and the energy costs saved throughout the building's life cycle. With this future perspective rules and regulations , the project Conclimat reinforces its initial objectives, given that it represents a first step towards highly energy-efficient building models, which in a short period of time will go from being a possibility to an obligatory reality.
