La Nación and The New York Times, big winners at the Malofiej Infographics Awards

The media were awarded the award Best of Show in print and digital categories, respectively.

La Nación (Argentina) and The New York Times (USA) have won the award Best of Show in the print and digital categories, respectively, in the 24th edition of the Malofiej Awards for journalistic infographics, organized by the Spanish Chapter of the Society for News Design (SND-E) and the School of Communication of the University of Navarra.

Argentina's La Nación has won the top award in print for its portfolio on its coverage of the 2015 elections and The New York Times has won the same award in online category for work 'You Draw It: How Family Income Predicts Children's College Chances'.

In addition, the jury awarded a total of 13 gold medals, 33 silver medals and 91 bronze medals to works published in print and online media. In this edition, 1,388 entries were submitted to the competition, from 150 media from 33 countries; a figure that equals the record number of media participation and exceeds by ten percent the entries submitted in the last edition.

Specifically, on this occasion, 77 media participated in print graphics categories and 73 media in online graphics categories. Likewise, of the 137 medals awarded by the jury, 79 corresponded to printed works (10 gold, 19 silver and 50 bronze medals) and 58 to online works (3 gold, 14 silver and 41 bronze medals).

The media awarded gold medals were National Geographic (USA), La Nación (Argentina), The New York Times (USA), Dnevnik (Slovenia), El Telégrafo (Ecuador), Fusion (USA), Jornal i (Portugal), The Guardian (USA) and The Washington Post (USA).

Special awards

The international jury, which met between March 6 and 9 at School de Comunicación, awarded four special prizes: the award Miguel Urabayen for Best Map, won by Dnevnik (Slovenia) in the print category and The Guardian (UK), in the online category; the Best Graphic on Climate Change and Environmental Commitment, won by Bloomberg News (USA) in the digital category, leaving the award in the print category vacant.

The Best Graphic on Human Rights, won by Die Zeit (Germany) in the print category and The Marshall Project (USA) in the online category; and the Best Graphic on Equality and Advancement of Women, won by The New York Times (USA) in the print category and Bloomberg News (USA) in the online category.
