350 medical students gather at the University for an interactive surgery course conference

The Regional Minister of Health highlights the formative role of this congress, "based on the partnership of great professionals from different health centers".

"These conference represent the interest and dedication of highly motivated and enthusiastic students with a profession, Medicine, which is our vocation". With these words, Santos Induráin, Regional Minister of Health of the Government of Navarra, inaugurated this afternoon the IV conference Interactive Surgery for Studentswhich will be held until Saturday at the University of Navarra. 

The meeting, organized by students, brings together 350 students from 21 Spanish universities, from 80 cities and 7 different countries. The Councilor highlighted the enthusiasm and motivation with which they have organized this congress. "Thanks to your work you have managed to celebrate conference based on the partnership between great professionals from different specialties, from different healthcare centers, from the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and the Navarra Hospital Complex, and important companies in the sector".

Induráin stressed the educational role of this meeting, which seeks topromote the Education surgical and expand their knowledge in an interactive way: "Surgery is essential in the training of any doctor and with these conference is intended to enrich the surgical knowledge base that students get along the Degree".

28 interactive workshops and 4 live surgeries

The conference are organized entirely by 4th, 5th and 6th year students of the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra, who have designed 28 interactive workshops at partnership with almost 80 professionals from both the Clinic and the Navarra Hospital Complex, from resident doctors to heads of service. Thus, students will be able to perform, among other procedures, the replacement of a mitral valve on pig hearts, the removal of bone marrow tumors with simulators developed for neurosurgery by the laboratory of Medical Engineering or a surgical scape room in which participants will have to apply their knowledge to get out in a set time.

In addition, on Friday morning, four surgeries will be broadcast live from the operating rooms of Clínica Universidad de Navarra. Some of them are performed in very few hospitals in Spain and use advanced technology. They will consist of a radical prostatectomy using a DaVinci Robot, a facial skin surgery with flap reconstruction, a cochlear implant placement, and a shoulder arthroscopy. 

During the broadcasts, participants will be able to interact in real time with the surgeons in charge and members of the surgical team, who will answer any questions that may arise and explain all the steps involved in the procedure.
