Patricia Phelps de Cisneros entrusts her photography collection to the Museo Universidad de Navarra

With this donation, the collector considers the Museo Universidad de Navarra as an ideal place for the conservation, academic study and knowledge dissemination of photography.

Patricia Phelps de Cisneros has donated a selection of photographic works from her renowned collection to the Museo Universidad de Navarra. The donation consists of 49 pieces, mostly by Latin American photographers from the 20th and 21st centuries. Among them are Andreas Gursky (Germany, 1955), Juan Uslé (Spain, 1954), Héctor Fuenmayor (Venezuela, 1949), Roberto Obregón (Colombia/Venezuela, 1946-2003), Mariana Castillo Deball (Mexico, 1975) and Miguel Rio Branco (Brazil, 1946), among others.

According to Gustavo and Patricia Cisneros "we aim to promote Education above all else. Over the past decades, in addition to organizing various educational programs, we have collaborated intensively with universities and their museums, including Harvard, NYU, University of Texas at Austin, Hunter College, Wheaton College and City University of New York".

A differential aspect of this donation is the express request of the Venezuelan collector that the photographs be studied by students of the Master in Curatorial Studies. Master in Curatorial Studiespostgraduate program , the only one in Spain for the academic training of art curators. Professors, researchers and students from other Schools will also have access to this donation, thus promoting the analysis of artistic photography from different areas of knowledge. With the research findings or evidence obtained, articles and publications will be published.

Patricia Phelps de Cisneros collaborates and financial aid with generosity and disinterestedness to the University of Navarra Museum since before its inauguration, which took place in 2015. She was particularly interested in the center's important photography collection, its university nature and the multidisciplinarity in the artistic programming.

For Jaime García del Barrio, director general director of the Museo Universidad de Navarra, "after all these years collaborating with Gustavo and Patricia, we are very grateful for their donation. And above all we are proud that the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection, so important and represented in the best museums in the world, has thought of us as the best place to house, conserve and study part of its collection". According to García del Barrio, the newly incorporated works "strengthen the value and knowledge of our extensive photographic collection and underline the richness of globality, so present in our Collection, with artists from all nations".

The University of Navarra Museum Collection is made up of more than 23,000 photographs by national and international artists, taken throughout the history of photography, from the origins of the technique in the mid-19th century to the present day.

Other donations from the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros have been sent to important museums in Latin America, the United States and Europe. These include the MoMA in New York, the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (MAMBA), the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI), the Blanton Museum of the University of Texas at Austin and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Spain.
