A team of researchers from the University of Navarra, led by the Full Professor of Nutrition Alfredo Martinez, is participating in an international study for the prevention of diabetes in children, adolescents and adults with obesity. The group starts this month the search for volunteers for the project Preview, which investigates the role of per diem expenses in the prevention of obesity and diabetes.

Thus, a total of 300 volunteers who are overweight and obese, and at risk of developing diabetes in the future, are encouraged to participate in this comprehensive program, free of charge, which will include meetings at group, advice on the preparation of healthy recipes and menus and recommendations on the internship exercise and change towards new lifestyle habits, with the ultimate goal of preventing obesity and diabetes.

At the start of the study, the ages of the volunteers required should range between 25-45 years and 55-70 years. The program includes continuous and personalized follow-up with nutritional assessment and dietary committee . Those interested in participating can contact by phone directly with the Metabolic Unit of Nutritional Intervention (948425744 / 616244655) or by email: voluntariosnut@unav.es.

The study involves six European countries, Australia and New Zealand.
The Preview study, funded by the European Union, has been launched simultaneously in six European countries (Denmark, Finland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Spain), as well as in Australia and New Zealand. The project consists of a nutritional interventionresearch comparing diets with higher and lower protein content in combination with two different levels of physical activity, as well as a three-year follow-up of overweight and obese people.

Members of the group of research integrated in the CIBERobn consortium (research center Biomedical in network of Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition) point out that"this study is an important challenge , in addition to having an extremely valuable utility for decision making in the Public Health area ". The results obtained could bring the goal closer to the prevention of overweight and obesity in the most vulnerable populations, such as children and the elderly, with the goal to reduce the incidence of diabetes subject 2.
