John Molson School of Business students win Case Competition

Second and third place went to Canada's Carleton University and Finland's Aalto University.

The John Molson School of Business (Montreal, Canada) was proclaimed last Friday the winner of the UNICC 13, the Case Competition organized by students of the School of Economics of the University of Navarra. The four Canadians came up with the best brand positioning strategy of La Caixa based on its social work. In second and third place were Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada) and Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland).

Joaquín Arbeloa, delegate of La Caixa in Navarra, presented the awards at a ceremony held Friday night at the Iruña Park Hotel. The students spent the past week competing with 11 other teams from eight universities in the United States, Canada, Austria and Finland, inaddition to the two from the University of Navarra.

The jury, composed of university professors, experts in consultancy service and investment banking and the La Caixa communications team, considered that the Canadians offered the best proposals for social work to support the development of its brand today.

The participants had only 24 hours to come up with a strategy that would contribute to improving the social perception and business of the entity. internship The Case Compeititon is an academic competition in which students must apply the knowledge acquired during their training: the jury submission a real case based on a problem from business and the students have a short period of time to come up with original and creative solutions, which must combine knowledge of finance, business strategy, communication and marketing, human resources and other skills needed in today's business .

Students from Aalto University, Carleton University, John Molson School of Business, Western University, Hec Montreal, University of Alberta, University of Florida and Innsbruck University worked at the University of Navarra's Amigos Building , got to know the region and established contacts during the past week.

The Case Competition forms an international league in which students from universities at reference letter work with leading companies, so that they gain experience and skills by getting used to working in a way that is very similar to what their future employers will demand of them, who also have the opportunity to observe their capabilities.

This year, on the occasion of its 25th anniversary, the University of Navarra's School of Economics organized its own Case Competition. After the previous rounds, which dealt with the brand perception of the consulting firm Deloitte and how to increase sales of Danone's water division, the Caixa case decided the best of the teams.

Adrián Mayans, student team member of organization, emphasized that the week of competition has allowed them not only to develop practical skills related to their future profession, but also to meet their colleagues from other countries, who took away "great memories because of the hospitality of the university community and Navarra in general". The organizing team hands over the baton in the hope that this Case Competition will become a regular event at School of Economics.
