The University of Navarra hosted a workshop on the "Treatment of the social image of people with disabilities in the media" organized by the committee of representatives of people with disabilities in Navarra (CORMIN) and given by Servimedia.

The inauguration was attended by Cormin's president, Javier Miranda, the University's President , Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, and CORMIN's University Secretary , Valentín Fortún. Javier Miranda explained that "the university is a very important institution and cannot turn its back on certain realities of a society such as disability. If we want human and social progress, there must be a connection". Likewise, the University's President emphasized that "disability is a problem for people, but it is a treasure for society".

The workshop was held with several sessions in which they talked and discussed about disability in different areas of communication; the advertisingThe sessions were held with several sessions in which disability in different areas of communication were discussed and debated; cinema and television, written press, radio and social networks. Esther Peña, journalist and manager of the newspaper "Solidaridad Digital" made a exhibition of the films that have appeared throughout the history of cinema related to disability. She emphasized its educational function: "Cinema is a way of explaining life to us and how you have to relate to people, especially those who are not like you, it is a very good pedagogical work".

On the other hand, Leonor Lidón, member of the Commission of the Social Image of Disability of the State CERMI, reflected on disability in the advertising, talking about the rights of people with disabilities. In her session she explained the importance that the State has to alert the media to show a positive image of disability in order to educate people's eyes and conscience.

Also, other speakers were the head of Communication of Servimedia, Rocio Barrie, who explained how to achieve the visibility of disability in the media and the head of Digital and Social Networks of Servimedia, Patricia Garcia, who spoke about social networks and disability. To conclude, the director of communication of Servimedia highlighted the work of this news agency that has completed 25 years.
