University hosts program to facilitate inclusion of people with disabilities

This free initiative, "Campus Inclusivos, Campus sin límites 2013", has the support of Fundación ONCE and Fundación Repsol sponsorship and will take place from September 9 to 13.

From Monday, September 9, campus in Pamplona and San Sebastian will become, for a week, the headquarters of a camp aimed at students in the 4th year of ESO, high school diploma and FP Superior with disabilities. The goal is to offer an accessible and inclusive environment for students to continue their training in the university environment.

The program, which is completely free of charge, will be held from September 9 to 13, and is open to students who in 2012-2013 have completed second cycle of Education Compulsory Secondary Education or Training Cycles Middle and/or Higher, residents of Spain, preferably in Navarra, La Rioja or the Basque Country, and who can prove that they have a disability equal to or greater than 33%, high school diploma or Training Cycles of Degree Middle and / or Higher, residents in Spain preferably in Navarra, La Rioja or Basque Country, and who prove a disability equal to or greater than 33%.During the camp, students will stay at the Colegios Mayores Belagua and Goimendi.

This initiative, promoted by Fundación ONCE and Fundación Repsol in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport through the Fundación Universidad.es , wants to encourage students with disabilities not to drop out of programs of study at the end of ESO, high school diploma or vocational training and access to higher education programs of study .

Academic, sports and leisure activities

The training program will be very broad and covers all areas of teaching taught at the University. Among other activities, participants will be able to diagnose a clinical case, accompanied by a professor from School of Medicine, or visit the Simulation Center of an emergency department conference room . In the School of Architecture, students will bring their personal experiences about the barriers they encounter in their daily life in the cities, and with the professor's financial aid they will look for solutions for their elimination. On their visit to the School of Engineers they will attend a session on automotive engineeringwith some of the students who are part of the Tecnun Motosport team, which designs and builds the vehicle with which the School competes every year in the Formula Student. 

Leisure and culture will also have a very important place in this camp. During their stay in Pamplona, the participants will make an architectural visit to the center of the city. Accompanied by teachers from School of Architecture they will visit the Walls of Pamplona, the old town, the Cathedral and the City Hall, ending in Estafeta Street, the emblematic place of the Sanfermin Running of the Bulls.

They will travel to San Sebastian and Roncesvalles. The students will visit the Aquarium of the city of San Sebastian with a professor of Zoology from the University; and the Collegiate Church, the Pilgrims' Hospital and the Library Services of Roncesvalles with a professor from the Chair of the Way of St. James.

One of the afternoons will be dedicated to sports. They will get to know the facilities of the University's sports center , visit the gymnasium and use the equipment that best suits the physical exercises they can develop. Also, depending on the characteristics of group they will do simple activities such as archery.

The deadline for registration is August 25. The Evaluation Commission, bearing in mind the principles of gender equity and subject of disability, will select a group of ten students.
