NCID, University of Pennsylvania and reservation Federal Bank of Philadelphia host workshop to develop African talent

The activity has served as a bridge between more than 70 bright students from 12 African countries and leading economist researchers.

reservation More than 70 African university students from 12 countries participated in the 'Empowering Africa Workshop', organized by the Navarra Center for International Development (NCID) of Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) together with the University of Pennsylvania and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia (USA). The workshop, held on March 15 and 16, served as a bridge between brilliant students from the continent and leading economist researchers, who offered them some tools to take advantage of their potential.

Throughout different sessions, the university students have heard from researchers how the work academic Economics financial aid to guide good policies, as well as the importance of knowledge and training of human capital in the economic growth of a country. 

The other major theme of the Empowering Africa Workshop, topic , was public policy. In this regard, the need has been stressed that growth requires leaders who have a solid understanding of Economics, who can adequately model the potential effects of different policies and who have the ability to evaluate public programs based on rigorous evidence.    

The 'Empowering Africa Workshop' is the result of a joint reflection between NCID, the University of Pennsylvania and the Bank of Philadelphia's Federal reservation to support and participate in processes that seek to make the most of Africa's human potential. 

The three entities agree that academic institutions should have as goal to enhance the research for promote the development. "This will have an impact not only on their future, but also on ours. Far from denying ourselves to a demographic and global leadership change that has no brakes, we must support and give the best of our abilities to participate in this process. Africa's prosperity, stability and modernity in the medium and long term deadline will be positive for the whole world, and we cannot be left behind," said NCID's director , Luis Ravina.  

The NCID is part of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra. It has been considered for the sixth consecutive year the best university think tank in Spain and the issue 54th in the world, according to the Global Go To Think Tank Index Report 2020. With this event, it aims to continue improving the work and the impact of the research, as well as its international presence, its general contributions and presence in the media, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations development .
