The students of the first year of Degree at design changed for a few days the workshops and classrooms of the School of Architecture University of Navarra for a few days at the Museo del Prado, the Teatro Real, the Museo del Traje, Reina Sofía, the Mapfre and Juan March foundations or the ISEM, among others, and went from theory to internship with great professionals from the world of design. In addition to the more traditional visits, although oriented to design, they met independent professionals in the sector, such as Jaime Narváez (designer and member of the collective La Troupe), Óscar and Carlos Gala, from Minishop Madrid... who showed the students the different professional realities of the world of design from very different perspectives.

"The visits to the museums, and especially visit to El Prado, were magnificent. The feeling of being in the foreground in front of such impressive paintings as Las Meninas by Velázquez, The Garden of Earthly Delights or Goya's Swing, is really impressive. I would also like to highlight the visit to other educational centers, such as the high school Tecnológico 'Fuenllana', where we were lucky enough to conduct a textile pattern making workshop with the software of a real textile business . Thanks to the experience in Madrid, we have not only acquired a greater perception and knowledge in terms of art and design, but as group we have bonded and enjoyed the time together," said Maitane Aldaba, a student of design and a native of Pamplona.

"The international nature of Degree at design, its transversal nature and the commitment to ensure that students are in today's world requires a balance between theory and internship. For this reason, Study program contemplates two workshops per year, one national and one international," explains Carlos Chocarro, coordinator of Degree at design. "This year, the first year students have planned a workshop in Madrid, which they have just completed, and another in the second year semester which will be in Italy, most likely in Rome and Milan. The goal of this trip was that the students had contact with the three professional fields of the mentions of Degree: design product, service and fashion. For this reason, during these days they were able to meet first-hand a wide range of professionals. The trip was conceived as a professional and cultural experience that was also an opportunity to reinforce the knowledge acquired at class during the term and to see the application internship of what they had learned from the perspective of design," he added.

For Nicolás Fabregat, student international Degree of design, "the Workshop in Madrid was an unforgettable experience where we saw things related to all subjects, from Design Studio I to Artistic Culture Of The Last Century. Going to an art museum with Art History and Architecture professors was an unforgettable experience. I learned a lot.

Awakening interest

Javier Antón, coordinator of the 1st course of Degree at design defined this experience as "a fundamentally cultural activity, but we also wanted it to be a time to explore, to open doors so that each student can discover their own path. That is why they have seen from the classic museums or the Royal Palace to self-managed spaces such as the Tabacalera workshops or the contact staff with professionals".

Javier Ortiz Echagüe, professor of Artistic Culture Of The Last Century and coordinator of this Workshop, emphasized above all that "it has been a journey full of contrasts, in which the students have had a first contact with the world of design from both the professional and cultural perspective, and have been able to see that the work of a designer can be fed from contact with historical works that can be seen in the Reina Sofia or the Prado, but also from knowledge of more independent works, which occur outside of the most institutional. The main goal was to awaken interest in very different things that are not mutually exclusive, but rather feed off each other".
