On September 12, with the beginning of the new academic year, a session was held at Sciences Building with the 3rd year students of the University of Navarra's NursingSchool within the subject Practicum II. The goal of the session was "toexplore the attitudes and values of the nursing professional and their impact on the patient/person and the family cared for", says Virginia la Rosa, manager of the subject.

For this purpose, the speakers who participated in the colloquium were: Isabel Iturrioz, supervisor of the Emergency Department of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra Ainhoa Parente, mother of an 8-year-old girl with Drevet disease; and Ana Zarrabeitia, a patient with burns due to an accident and diagnosed with breast carcinoma.

During the roundtable, one of the topics discussed was the importance of the nursing professional's scientific knowledge . Both the patient and the family member concluded that it is a factor that gives them a lot of security and that it is perfectly perceived. They also affirmed that this security was transformed into confidence most of the time.

The importance of the nursing professional's way of being present during the disease process also came up. All the speakers affirmed that an "intentional presence" of the nurse is one of the aspects that is most valued, and often the one that requires the most effort on the part of the professional.

Finally, the last topic to be discussed was the meaning of life. When a patient is sick, he/she feels vulnerable and tries to find the meaning of his/her life. It is also in these moments that the nurse can develop a very important professional work. After the generated colloquium , the students could really observe the different perspectives of the disease creating a very enriching colloquium for all present.
