Anna-Maria Moubayed, Ph.D. in Art History and Art Conservation from Queen's University (Kingston, Canada), has joined project 'Religion and Civil Society' of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra to research on the figure of Eve in medieval art and thought.

Moubayed also holds a BA and Master's Degree in Art History and Classical Archaeology from Concordia University (Montreal, Canada), where she has worked as an assistant professor of Medieval Art History. She has also completed a one-year research stay in France thanks to the scholarship Bader in Art History.

The expert considered that her work can greatly benefit from her visit to the ICS because of the high level of excellence of its professionals. "With the support of ICS researchers, I hope to have a positive impact on the world, especially on the area of Humanities and Culture", she stressed.

Moubayed decided to undertake a postdoctoral stay at the ICS after learning about Jaume Aurell's work , researcher of 'Religion and Civil Society'. According to him, this team at research represents the university ideal: a space for research and sharing data and ideas at partnership with experts from various scientific disciplines.

Eve and Humanity in the Age of average

At the framework of the project 'Religion and Civil Society', Moubayed will investigate how the sculptural representation of the figure of Eve has forged the identity narrative of humanity in the Romanesque. Specifically, he will study European imagery from the 1080s to 1200, primarily in Spain and France.

For the expert, Eva can be considered a pan-European concept -a series of symbolic elements as well as an archetype of herself- of great impact on gender, social Structures and behavior. For this reason, he will study her status as an example of a woman in Western medieval culture that has led her to become, as he has assured, a shaper of the Romanesque identity narrative. To learn about this role, she will analyze the shifts of subordination in Genesis - good versus evil, celestial versus earthly, corporeal versus spiritual, etc. This, in turn, will allow you to study the sculptures of Eve from the context of medieval minorities.

Moubayed joins ICS thanks to a scholarship postdoctoral ' research Quebec Funds' in 'Society and Culture' offered by the Government of Quebec. These grants aim to promote financial support for research in Humanities and Social Sciences, the dissemination of knowledge, the support of excellent researchers and the fostering of relations with other international centers.
