Professors and students of the EuropeanMaster's Degree in Food, Nutrition and Metabolism (E-MENU) of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra participated in the VII seminar on Food and Healthy Lif estyles held last July in Vitoria. The meeting was organized by the University of the Balearic Islands and the University of the Basque Country.

With the degree scroll "New developments in nutrition, physical activity and health", professors Alfredo Martínez and Fermín Milagro intervened in the symposium with presentations focused on biomarkers in obesity, interactions between genes and per diem expenses, and guides in personalized nutrition. The students of Master's Degree were also accompanied by professors Amelia Martí and María Jesús Moreno, who moderated a session.

In turn, students and researchers presented two posters, one on the effects of different fatty acids on the regulation of a pro-inflammatory adipose tissue molecule, called quemerin, in adipocytes in vitro. The other dealt with how basal levels of DNA methylation can help predict a response to weight loss treatment.

The rest of the sessions addressed issues such as the metabolic problems of sedentary lifestyles and their control, the importance of physical activity and hydration, functional foods for thermogenesis and healthy longevity, and the myths and realities of slimming diets, among other topics.
