Professor Pedro Gonzalez Muniesa, from the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarrarecently traveled to Chile at the invitation of Professor Diego Garcia of the University of Chilewith whom he is collaborating on a project of research on inflammation and obesity. In addition to this center, Gonzalez visited the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad de los Andesand presented some of his most recent work on cell therapy to researchers and staff professor .
During his stay, he also gave a seminar on oxygen and its possible usefulness as a treatment for obesity, a research carried out from the department of Food Science and Physiology, within the network Ciberobn (research center Biomedical at network- Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition), to students of nutrition and dietetics of the three universities. The expert put forward some hypotheses that are still under experimentation at the cellular level, in animals (rats) and also in humans, and distinguished hyperoxia (high amount of oxygen) from hypoxia (lack of oxygen in adipose tissue).
The trip served to set up instructions for future exchanges between the nutrition students of Navarra and the three South American centers.
