INCOMES is the acronym of project, recently completed, "guide for the substantiation of health claims on foods; Immune, cognitive and metabolic syndrome functions" and its main goal has been the development of a standardized methodology for the scientific validation of foods or ingredients with health/functional characteristics that allows the establishment of health claims with rigor and guarantees before EFSA.

This project, whose scientific activity has been coordinated by the CIN of the UNAV and CNTA, has been financed by the Ministry of Economics and Competitiveness (MINECO) with co-financing from FEDER funds, and managed by the Center for Industrial Technological development (CDTI) through the call for the INNPRONTA Program.

The participating consortium, coordinated by business La Morella Nuts SAU (group Barry Callebaut), is also formed by Biosearch SA, Biotecnologías Aplicadas SA, Bodega Matarromera SL, Miguel Torres SA, Galletas Gullón SA, Iberfruta SA, Laboratorios Ordesa SL, Newbiotechnic SA and Soria Natural.

The Scientific committee of this project, coordinated by the CIN and the CNTA also includes, as core research Organisms of project, to CIMA and the NUTREN and ANTIOXIDANTS groups of the University of Lérida.

In addition to these, 17 other organizations or groups from research participated: UB-NUTRI, UB-FISIO, UB-CEQUAP, UAB-BQBM, UAB-NUTRI, ADESVA, IRTA, FIBHULH, CTNS, LEITAT, USP-CEU, UGR, CARTIF, AINIA, UCM, CEBAS, CABIMER.

Among others, the functionality and mechanisms of action of polyphenols (anthocyanins, stilbenes, flavonols...), alkaloids, sterols and phytosterols, fibers, etc. have been studied. The functionality of certain strains with potential probiotic activity has also been studied.
