Cinfa and the research center in Nutrition of the University of Navarra have developed a precision nutrigenetic test -AdelGENic- that allows prescribing the most favorable per diem expenses to lose weight and control the weight of each person. A tool that represents a breakthrough in preventing overweight and obesity which, according to the latest data, affect 39.3% and 21.6% of Spanish adults, respectively, and which threaten to become an epidemic.

This milestone is the result of the intense work carried out by the laboratory and the Navarra center in an innovative 5-year study research, which has taken into account numerous individualized variables and the genotype of each person for its development.

"We are very satisfied with the results of this joint research which has allowed us to take another step towards personalized precision nutrition, taking into account both the individual and their environment when defining the most appropriate treatment for their weight loss," says Alicia López de Ocáriz, director of research and development at Cinfa.

"Until a few decades ago, nutrition recommendations were general, aimed at broad population groups, such as pregnant women, children, the elderly, etc.," explains Fermín I. Milagro Yoldi, . Milagro Yoldi, manager of the research Nutrimics and Biomarkers Line of the research center in Nutrition of the University of Navarra. "With personalized nutrition began to adapt the per diem expenses to the needs and preferences of each person, taking into account their age, sex, clinical history, lifestyle and food preferences. And now, with advances in nutrigenetics, we can fill in this approach adding also the information Genetics of each individual, which allows us to know their response to the nutrients ingested with food. This is the maximum personalization of per diem expenses, known as Precision Nutrition, which will make it possible to offer personalized guidelines for each individual based on their genetic and environmental factors," explains the expert, "and it is the first time that 100 genetic variants related to obesity, weight control and adiposity have been analyzed, which allows us to know exactly how Genetics contributes to each person's body weight," adds the director of research and development at Cinfa.

Together with the analysis of these 100 genetic variations -measurement that is carried out through a sample of saliva-, the AdelGENic nutrigenetic test also performs an anthropometric study and a study of the lifestyle habits of each individual. With all this information, and applying the mathematical models provided by the previous study and previous research of the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition of the University of Navarra, it is possible to predict the per diem expenses with which the individual will obtain better results in his or her goal weight loss and weight control. In this way, the pharmacist specialized in nutrition will be able to indicate the most appropriate per diem expenses for each person according to the results, as well as to monitor the patient's adherence to the per diem expenses and its evolution.

Nutrigenetic test

"It is a nutrigenetic test that, in addition, has been supported by the Government of Navarra through a project tractor coordinated by Aditech in which the research center in Nutrition and the CIMAThe project has also been supported by the Government of Navarra through a tractor coordinated by Aditech, with the participation of director in Nutrition and the Center's Inn ovation Department," says Carlos J. González Navarro, . "In this way, we try to promote projects with a high competitive value and that allow us to advance in the development of Precision Nutrition and Personalized Nutrition", he adds.

"Obesity is a global health problem with important effects on people's wellbeing, since a poor diet can increase the risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases, diabetes or disorders of the locomotor system, among others. Hence the importance of making available to patients, and hand in hand with healthcare professionals, innovative solutions that help them to establish healthy eating habits, and thus take care of their health in a comprehensive manner," concludes Alicia López de Ocáriz.

Cinfa's advanced line of research in nutrition and health, Ns Nutritional System, also offers nutrigenetic programs aimed at the prevention of different nutrition-related pathologies as well as a global service that combines prevention and slimming.
