The journal of Physiology and Biochemistry with the highest impact in Spain celebrates its 65th anniversary.

The publication of the University of Navarra, founded in 1945 by Dr. Juan Jiménez Vargas, is co-published since this year with publishing house Springer.

Biochemistry The University of Navarra's Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry, the publication of its area with the highest impact index in Spain, has celebrated its 65th anniversary.

On its anniversary, this specialized journal, one of the oldest in Spain, will have a new website and will be co-published by the German Springer publishing house .

The Spanish Journal of Physiology -as it was called until 1996- was born in 1945 by Dr. Juan Jiménez Vargas, who brought it with him to the University of Navarra when he joined as Full Professor of General Physiology and Biochemistry in his School of Medicine.

The project publishing house was supported from the beginning by committee Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). Published first in Barcelona and from 1966 in Pamplona, it remained linked to the department of Animal Physiology of the academic center, with Dr. Francisco Ponz as co-director from the second volume and director from volume 46 to 65.

Currently, its activity is linked to the department of Food Sciences, Physiology and Toxicology of the School of Pharmacy, through professors Ana Barber and María Pilar Lostao -directors- and Paula Oteiza -administrative assistant management assistant -.
 

Impact Factor: 1,264

The Spanish Journal of Physiology was already listed in the instructions of data international. However, since it was named in English, its impact factor has increased from 0.491 -in 1998- to 1.264 -in 2007.

In 2010 Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry has become part of the distribution system and network of publishing house Springer. An advance for the dissemination of the journal in the English language environment, both in print and online, with the goal to multiply its quality, reach and impact factor.

Its contents, available at www.springer.com/biomed/human+physiology/journal/13105, continue to focus on Animal Physiology, Biochemistry and Human Physiology, with articles written by researchers from all over the world. The periodicity is maintained at four issues per year with about 35 original articles and some reviews, all in English.
