Carlos Sambricio, Full Professor of History of Architecture and Urbanism at the ETSA of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, gave a lecture lecture at the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra under the degree scroll 'The search for an identity of its own in Spanish architecture'.

This intervention closed the course he taught at Master's Degree in design Architectural (MDA), which addressed in eight seminars both discussion on architectural theory in the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as the analysis of five specific examples: El Escorial; Juan de Villanueva; urban models in Hispanic America in the second half of the 18th century; the urban option of the liberal city in the 19th century and the discussion between architectural orthodoxy and the heterodoxy of those who opted for a "new objectivity".

A trip to Basque towns

The sessions were completed with a comparative group exercise of the process in plan of Le Corbusier's housing until 1930, proposing 3 or 4 process drawings for each project. By relating each evolutionary process to the previous and the next, in an attempt to interpret the general evolution of the modern master, they organized a critical workshop on all the material on the same graphic scale (1:100).

On the other hand, at the end of the course, the MDA students went on a trip with the teacher to the Basque towns of Bermeo, Zarautz and Guetaria, where they visited architectural works from the 14th and 19th centuries.

The Full Professor Carlos Sambricio has a PhD in Art History from the Complutense University of Madrid and a PhD in Theory and History of Art from the École de Hautes Études de Sciences Sociales (France). He is the author and publisher of several publications.

He has also carried out his work professor and research at the following foreign universities: Harvard University, Getty Center Humanities (Los Angeles), Canadian Center for Architecture (Montreal), Bau- und Stadtbaugeschichte, Hochschule für Bildende Künste (Hamburg), and the School of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano.
