II Development Week begins

Experts from around the world discuss challenges and opportunities in developing countries development

The Center of development International of the University of Navarra is bringing together this week experts and researchers from all over the world. In this edition, Laura Guibert from Navarra, teaching assistant of research at the same center, is participating with a study that seeks to measure the economic cost caused by the violence after the 2007 elections in Kenya.

His work, which has already been presented in Oxford and will soon be exhibited in Paris, was created with the intention of quantifying the repercussions that armed conflicts such as the Kenyan one can have on a country's development . 

For his part, Pedro Mendi, researcher of the University of Navarra, will present the first results of a project on business innovation in Kenya. This study, which has been supported by the World Bank and local entities in the African country, seeks to shed light on trends in product, process and machinery improvement within Kenyan companies. In this way, it is hoped that in the future a roadmap can be drawn up to achieve more efficient economic growth.

In addition to these sessions, the Week of development also features international experts. Oded Stark from the University of Bonn will kick off the week with a session on globalization and poverty. Professor Prakarsh Singh(Amherst College, Massachusetts) will also give a course at congress on the causes and consequences of civil conflict.
