Ana Rosa Maroto, winner of the III Final Project Competition Degree of the Chair Madera

The second prizes of this competition of the University and the Government of Navarra have been awarded to Amaia Rieiro and Javier Janda.

Ana Rosa Maroto (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid) has won the III Final Project Competition Degree Chair Madera. The competition is promoted by the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and the Chair Madera, a joint initiative of the Government of Navarra and the academic center.

This activity aims to goal award the project end of Degree (PFG) that best highlights the use of wood and sustainability aspects. The award consists of a scholarship that covers the cost of the enrollment in the Master's Degree in design and management Environmental of Buildings (MDGAE) that is imparted in the campus pamplonés. Precisely, the submission of awards takes place in the graduation ceremony of the postgraduate program.

The jury has valued the project of this architect, graduate 'Seams', "the courage of the proposal for the valorization of a residual space in which the relevant role of the structural development stands out, and the meticulous development made".

Wood protagonism and sustainable aspects

Two runners-up prizes were also awarded to the works 'Usera5', by Amaia Rieiro Díaz (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid), and 'WOOD4U', by Javier Janda Garcés (Universidad Camilo José Cela). Of the former, the jury highlighted its "adaptation of the employment of wood to an ambitious approach, in addition to the order and control of scale and the sustainable aspects developed"; while in the latter the jury valued its "concern for the reuse and enhancement of existing buildings, and the prominence of wood in this strategy".

The jury is composed of José Manuel Cabrero, director of the Chair Madera; Fermín Olabe Velasco, director of management Forestal del Gobierno de Navarra; Marta García Alonso, professor of the School of Architecture; and the architect Manuel Enríquez, partner of Barcos y Enríquez Arquitectos.  

To judge the projects, these four experts took into account the following criteria: the use of wood as the main structural material, the creative and innovative use of wood in the design, the appropriate response to basic functional and architectural criteria, architectural coherence, and sustainability and environmental criteria.
