The School of Architecture of the University of Navarra establishes the award Javier Carvajal Ferrer

It will be awarded to persons or institutions committed to the dissemination and teaching of architecture.

The School of Architecture of the University of Navarra has announced the establishment of the award Javier Carvajal Ferrer, a award that will recognize the coherence, entity and solidity of people or institutions committed to the dissemination and teaching of architecture.

"We want to maintain the report of this great professor and it seems to us that this award is a good way to do so," said Mariano González Presencio, director of the School of Architecture. "It is difficult to find among his contemporaries an architect with greater enthusiasm professor and as coherent and dedicated to this task as he was," he added.

Mariano González Presencio also wants the committee Superior de los Colegios de Arquitectos de España to participate in this initiative: "We want this award to involve this institution as well as other schools of architecture, for which I am now asking for suggestions, so that the first edition can take place in 2011".

Recognition event in Madrid

The advertisement of this award took place during a recognition event for Javier Carvajal's work organized by the University of Navarra in Madrid. The event was also promoted by committee Superior de los Colegios de Arquitectos de España, together with the architects' associations of Madrid and Catalonia and the School of Architecture of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

Around two hundred students and professors from the University of Navarra traveled to the capital for attend to attend this event, which also included the presentation of the book La huella de un maestro. The book contains a series of images of file General of the University of Navarra, which can currently be seen in a exhibition installed at entrance hall of the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (until November 9).

Javier Carvajal Ferrer (Barcelona, 1926) graduated as an architect from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (1953) with award Extraordinario de Fin de degree program, where in 1965 he obtained the Chair de Proyectos. From 1976 until his retirement he was a professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra.

His professional career has been recognized on numerous occasions and he is the author of important works such as the Escuela Universitaria de programs of study Empresariales de Barcelona (1961, Barcelona); the Spanish Pavilion for the Universal exhibition in New York (1963); the Valencia Tower (1972, Madrid); and the Library Services Nueva de la Universidad de Navarra (1998).
