University students welcome the president of committee organizer of the United Nations 2013 model

This year's WorldMUN chair, Siamak S. Loni of Monash University, explains how the event simulates the workings of the UN.

Siamak S. Loni, president of the committee organizing model Harvard United Nations (WorldMUN), from Monash University, gave a briefing to the University of Navarra students who will participate in congress and LIMUN 2013. Both congresses, which simulate the work of the United Nations, will be held in Melbourne and London respectively later this year.

The speaker was invited by the UNAV MUNClub, a student organization aimed at selecting and preparing students to participate in international Model United Nations. He was welcomed by the subdelegate of the School and co-founder of the club, Jesús Amézquita, by the also co-founder Andrés Alcalá and by the newly elected University Secretary of the UNMUN 2013, Marc Gòdia.

Siamak shared his experience as a participant in the Model United Nations and his current role as organizer of WorldMUN 2013 in Melbourne, Australia. He emphasized the importance and the right of young people to be heard in order to improve society and informed that one of the initiatives of the next edition of WorldMUN is to ensure that the resolutions adopted by the students are taken into account by the United Nations. He also gave advice on the preparation that students should have for their future participation and emphasized the development and impact that these models have had today.

As president of the organizing committee in Melbourne, Siamak described the journey that a group of students from Monash University have had to go through to make WorldMUN 2013 happen in their city. He highlighted the difficulty of the process to be chosen and the challenge that went into securing sponsorship. He sent a message of support and encouraged the students to work hard and as a team to achieve their goals. He encouraged the students not to give up in the search for sponsorships and funds both to participate and to organize the internal model , stressing that it is always possible to find support for activities that have an impact such as the Model United Nations.
