Students of the 2nd year of the Higher Technical Course in design and Furnishing of the C.I Donibane have built, in partnership with students of the University of Navarra, a wooden structure for . School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, a wooden structure for the campus.

It is a ' meeting point ' where young people can sit, meet and converse with their peers. The result is designed as a small pavilion, providing shelter and shade.

Before the Donibane students went to campus, the structure was designed by 3rd year Architecture students who have chosen the technical accredited specialization in their training. This activity had as goal to bring the students closer to a realmodel of work , where they experience a complete construction process, from design to its fabrication.

"For the design of the 'point of meeting' we were inspired by the works of Zaha Hadid, an architect who expresses movement in her projects. In addition, we wanted the design to adapt to the shape of the body," says Gabriela Hidalgo, architecture student and co-director of the chosen project . "The biggest constraint was the limit of the material. We only had four material boards from which we had to extract the pieces, and this is what made the model change until we reached the final design ," adds the student.

partnership fruit of a agreement

Iker Jáuregui and Xavier Lizarraga were the students at position of the work team of C.I. Donibane. "Once the project was chosen we have been in contact by whatsapp and emails with the Architecture students. They would send us the plans, we would make modifications and they would send them back to us. "We always gave indications thinking about the future fabrication and construction," explains Xavier. And so on, until we got a final result . It's a very nice experience: working on a project, building it and seeing it installed," explains Iker.

Students from both entities have agreed that the experience has helped them learn about communication between the designer and the builder, in order to understand and comply with requirements from both points of view. "We have put in internship to set limits, either to a designer or a construction manager, since something can be visually attractive but not feasible to build," explains Iker.

"I totally recommend this experience as it gave us the opportunity to work with and understand the material and its capabilities, and the chance to see an idea built," concludes student of the School of Architecture Juan Bernardo Tamayo, co-director of the chosen project .

The cooperation was organized by the School of Architecture through the seminar International on Wood Construction, at position of Professor José Manuel Cabrero. On the other hand, Professor Alfonso Erro was the supervisor of the students of the Higher Technical Course in design and Furnishing of the C.I. Donibane. The public-private partnership is preceded by a agreement that was signed in early January in cooperation with the Spanish business FINSA (manufacturer of boards that has provided the materials altruistically) through the Portu Wood Warehouses.
