José Antonio Casajús, Full Professor of Physical Activity and Health of the University of Zaragoza, gave the inaugural lecture of the XVI meeting of the Spanish Society of Nutrition (SEÑ) that is celebrated in the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra.

In this session dedicated to the anti-doping rules and regulations , Casajús reviewed the doping control systems and the products contaminated by doping substances on the market. Although there are very new controls, the expert considers that as "they are always trying to invent something to win at all costs", there will come a time when "genetic doping will be possible".

In the framework of this meeting of 250 experts, with the slogan"Nutrition and exercise: vital healthy binomial", there have been sessions focused on the relationship between food and sport and the importance of physical activity and healthy behaviors to reduce the risk of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes or obesity and overweight.

More benefits if the exercise is pleasurable

Manuel Castillo, Full Professor of Medical Physiology at the University of Granada, warned that "sport, like any treatment, can also have side effects such as trauma, or the most serious, sudden death". However, Castillo insists on the proven health benefits of physical activity, "even more so if the exercise is pleasurable".

The congress, inaugurated by Yolanda Barcina, president of the Government of Navarra, will close on Saturday, July 5 with a session on the medical care of an elite athlete that will take place after a previous workshop on self-management of physical activity and a session on sports nutrition.
