Solidariun 17 brings together more than a thousand people and fifty associations

More than a thousand people and fifty associations have participated today in Solidariun 17, the workshop of solidarity of the University of Navarra.

The main event was attended by Father Angel, founder of Mensajeros de la Paz and award Prince of Asturias for Concord, who, after a video explaining the activity of the NGO, stressed that is a time of great solidarity and that "there has never been such a beautiful social explosion; solidarity is everyone's heritage".

This year's Solidariun awards were presented to the School of Architecture and the Economic and Administrative Service, in the categories of School and Most Supportive Service. The awards for the most supportive junior and senior volunteer also went to Patricia Hoyo, a second year Economics, Leadership and Governance student; and to degree scroll posthumously to Javier Bada, director of Maintenance Service who passed away last year.

After the awards ceremony submission , a solidarity paella was held, in which more than 400 people participated. Each paella ticket cost 5 euros, which will go to finance the construction of a water well in the high school Blue Sky in Tanzania, project with which students of the University collaborate.

During the workshop, attendees were able to learn first hand about the work carried out by the 55 NGOs and associations that have been present this year. For the organization of the workshop, Tantaka, the University's Solidarity Time Bank, has had the support of partnership of companies such as Inmobiliaria Houselab, Copistería New Ink, Lacturale, Hotel Muga de Beloso and Gráficas Eguzkiza.

977 volunteers and 151 projects

During the 2016-17 academic year, Tantaka had 977 volunteers, 181 of whom were University employees. It has collaborated with 113 Navarre associations, has offered 151 projects and has carried out 1103 volunteer assignments. As its own program, it promotes Tantaka Inclusion, whose aim is to increase the autonomy and integration of people with disabilities or at risk of exclusion through the improvement of their professional skills and therefore also their employability, by means of goal .

Precisely, and coinciding with this workshop, a study by the Mutua Madrileña Foundation has highlighted the University of Navarra as the third university center in Spain with the highest number of projects issue volunteer activities .
