University students propose improvements in the neighborhood of La Milagrosa
The students designed a Cultural Social Center on the border of the neighborhood with the new southern growth of Pamplona.
Students of the 1st and 2nd year of the Degree in Architecture of the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra worked during the second semester of the course on a project to improve the neighborhood of La Milagrosa in Pamplona. The exercise consisted of designing a triangular-shaped Cultural Social Center on the site occupied by the former nursery school located between Blas de Laserna and Manuel de Falla streets, on the border of the neighborhood with the new southern growth of the city.
Encouraged by the Pamplona City Council, in the context of the Latin American Architecture Biennial, the future architects were invited to reflect on the needs of La Milagrosa. As part of the subject 'Introduction to Urban Planning', the characteristics of the neighborhood were explained to them, a theoretical knowledge that they contrasted and expanded thanks to several visits to the area.
The students participated in the project under the format of a vertical workshop, so that in mixed groups the learning of work in team and knowledge transversal took place. This made possible a joint reflection on different attentions that constitute the foundation of the graphic and project subjects: the conception of architecture as transformation and modification of the place, the dialogue with the context and the symbolic value of architecture itself.
The proposals were to contain four music classrooms, two computer classrooms, conference room gymnasium, conference room dance, four music labs, one classroom kitchen, conference room exhibition, cafeteria/cafeteria, auditorium, toilets, three offices and waiting area for administration, Library Services adult, Library Services juvenile, two work seminars, two school support classrooms, outdoor space, storeroom and facilities.
