Five experts participate in a roundtable on transparency, credibility and reputation of the Church.

The GISIC (group of research on the Support of the Catholic Church), of the School of Canon Law of the University of Navarra convened, last June 1, five experts who spoke about transparency, credibility and reputation of the Church in a roundtable that was part of the workshop "Practical questions about the material resources of the Church and its evangelizing mission statement ".

Fernando Giménez Barriocanal, vice-secretary for economic affairs of the Spanish Episcopal lecture Spanish Episcopal Conferencesaid that the Church must communicate its activities with transparency, "a concept that is here to stay," he said. Jorge Otaduy analyzed the implications of the legislation on transparency for ecclesiastical entities. For his part, Javier Martín Cavanna, director of the Commitment and Transparency Foundation and publisher of the magazine "Compromiso Empresarial"presented some of the reports he has produced on transparency on the websites of universities, political parties, foundations and the media. He encouraged Church entities to be bold in their implementation of transparency through network. Yago de la Cierva, professor at IESE of "Preventive Communication and Crisis management ," proposed the need for diocesan financial and communications managers to work together to develop transparency. The session was moderated by Prof. Reyes Calderón, professor at IESE's School of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Navarra.

The workshop, which was held on May 31 and June 1, served to reflect on and share experiences in fundraising. One of the sessions focused on the North American experience and was conducted via videoconference with Bettina Alonso, director of department of development of the Archdiocese of New York. The opportunities of the broad social discussion on transparency and its importance in the mission statement of the Church were also analyzed.
