The Queen of England will preside over the ceremony in which the University professor and director of Mangado y Asociados will be honored.

The Navarrese architect Francisco Mangado, director of Mangado y Asociados and professor at School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, will be invested today as an honorary international member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

This lifetime achievement award is given annually to professionals from all over the world, except the United Kingdom, to recognize their particular contribution to architecture. In this edition, seven architects from Europe and Asia were honored. In addition to Francisco Mangado, another Spaniard, Carlos Ferrater, of the Barcelona Architecture Office, has been honored. The other winners are Momoyo Kaijima and Yoshiharu Tsukamoto, of Atelier Bow Wow (Japan); Sou Fujimoto (Japan), Anna Heringer (Germany/Austria) and Christian Kerez (Switzerland).

Francisco Mangado (Navarra, 1957) is an architect by the technical school of Architecture of the University of Navarra, where he has been a professor since 1982. In the field of teaching, he has also been visiting professor at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University and Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor of Architecture at School of Architecture at Yale University. He is currently visiting professor at EPFL Lausanne. In 2008 he created the Architecture and Society Foundation. He has received numerous prestigious national and international awards, such as the award FAD 2004, Construmat 2009, the award Nacional de Arquitectura in 2009, the award Copper in 2009, the Giancarlo Ius Gold Medal awarded by the UIA and, most recently, the 'Chicago Athenaeum 2011'.
