The group of research Siglo de Oro (GRISO) of the University of Navarra has co-organized, together with the Fundación Visión Cultural, Unión Latina, the Municipal Government of Santa Cruz and the Universidad Privada de Santa Cruz (UPSA) the VI meeting International on Baroque, held recently in Santa Cruz (Bolivia) under the degree scroll 'Image of Power'. This meeting brought together some fifty experts from Spain, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Ukraine, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela. In addition to the marked international character, it is also worth mentioning the approach multidisciplinary of congress, in which papers were read on art, history, literature and linguistics, but also on the history of spirituality and architecture. At the opening ceremony, rule Campos, President of the Fundación Visión Cultural, highlighted "the valuable and continuous cultural contribution of the GRISO, which has made it possible to organize these biannual meetings on the Baroque with the greatest scientific guarantees".

The University of Navarra was represented at this congress by four GRISO researchers: Álvaro Baraibar, who spoke on Lope de Aguirre and power; Andrés Eichmann, with a discussion paper on the image of Incas and caudillos in various literary works; Pilar Latasa, who developed the topic of the staging of episcopal power in Charcas; and Mariela Insúa, who dealt with the image of power in a comedy by the Spanish-Portuguese writer Jacinto Cordeiro. The academic sessions were complemented by a rich program of baroque music concerts and the photographic exhibition 'A look at the Baroque'.

MultipleGRISO activities in Bolivia

In addition to this series of meetings on the Baroque held every two years in different Bolivian cities, GRISO maintains close ties with numerous institutions in the Andean country. Thus, it co-organizes with the Bolivian Society of Classical programs of study the Bolivian Encounters of Classical programs of study ; collaborates with the Fundación Visión Cultural and Unión Latina in the 'Cultural Leaders' Program and in the 'Courses of training in Cultural Heritage'; has institutional relations with the file Nacional de Bolivia and the Bolivian Academy of the language and develops frequent academic activities with the University Nuestra Señora de la Paz and the University of San Marcos. Another of GRISO's lines of action in Bolivia is the reconstruction of the route of the discoverer Juan Recio de León through the Madidi region, in interdisciplinary explorations (history, literature, art, botany, etc.) that have the added purpose of recovering the Bolivian cultural and environmental heritage. GRISO is currently developing with the Universidad Nuestra Señora de La Paz a preparatory action on 'Enhancing the value of cultural heritage in Bolivia', project financed by AECID.
