Aser Longás, artist and graduate of the School of Architecture, has presented his first exhibition as a sculptor. Until October 19, the Palacio del Condestable in Pamplona will host twenty of his creations, made in wood.

What do you intend to reflect with your works?
There are those who are seduced by the fleshiness of wood, but others are surprised by the geometric ingenuity... Some feel stimulated, while others say they wish to sleep in its bosom... I hope my works are as abundant and ambiguous as a forest, that they escape me. That feeling that they escape me is what suggests to me that I'm not going astray. About what I want to reflect in them... There are always intentions on the part of the author, of course, but as I have explained, the work must escape him.

Why is wood the main material in your creations?
I find it unsurpassable. No metal seems so valuable to me, not even gold. I tend to compare carpentry shops -always warm, pleasant, where you feel like talking and touching things-, with metalwork shops, where the extreme predominates, the cold, the heat, the noises, the echoes, the shines, the numbers, the microns, the lasers... The abysmal difference between the places where these materials are worked seems significant to me. Then there is the stone, of course, the marble... That will have to be worked under canvas, like the Greeks. It can't be bad at all!

What heritage do your sculptures have from your university training ?
I was already very restless before starting the degree program, and family trips had already had an effect, but the University provided me with a very broad technical base and allowed me to discover regions of the spirit that otherwise I might not have been able to reach.

What weight does your artistic vocation have in your professional life?
Sculpture caught me the same summer I returned from a year-long trip to England and France. Sculpture is the open sea for me. However, I don't rule out going back to architecture when a good opportunity arises. After all, I love it: gigantic sculptures that you can walk through and that serve a purpose! What a great idea!
