The VIII conference of Journalism in Basque of the University of Navarra welcomed in this edition guests such as Iban Garate, actor and TV presenter, Ander Izagirre, journalist and writer, or Xabier Letona, director of the magazine Argia. The topic of the meeting, organized by the Chair of language and Basque Culture and the group Abarrots of the academic center, was "Journalism in Basque and the crisis".

The actor Ibán Gárate gave a talk at lecture entitled "360º productions and the zirimiri. Flych, the whisper of the rocks, the documentary", in which he spoke about this subject of productions that, "far from staying in the medium for which they are intended - television, for example -, expand to others such as cinema, music, toys, clothes, etc.

He also referred to the new ways of producing: "Our skill has increased. With the emergence of new media, consumers have become active skill , producing content for different platforms such as Youtube or Facebook". He also presented his documentary Flych, el susurro de las rocas and affirmed that "with a well-organized production and a good advertising management , a product can become a 360º production".

Dedicate time to do good journalism

For his part, Ander Izagirre spoke about his book Cuidadores del mundo, in a lecture with the same name. In his exhibition he explained the origin of this work: the writing of some articles about tourist areas in the Basque Country, which later ended up becoming a work that compiles interviews with curious characters who dedicate their lives to caring for the nature that surrounds them. "Details say a lot about people. To do good journalism you have to dedicate a lot of time, and even more so in times of crisis," said the writer. "We are used to going far away, but close to home we have many stories," he added.

Finally, Xabier Letona, who entitled his exhibition "'Argia', 90 years in the history of journalism in Basque", referred to the origins of this magazine, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary. Among many anecdotes, he talked about how they have faced the different crises they have suffered over the years, such as the lack of staff or the jump to the Internet.
