Pamplona City Council recognizes the work for the promotion of the Basque language of the University professor, Ana Echaide.

She received a tribute at the Palacio del Condestable together with thirteen other women.

The Pamplona City Council has recognized the work of the professor of the University of Navarra, Ana Echaide, in favor of the promotion and dissemination of the Basque language. Echaide received a tribute along with thirteen other women at the Palacio del Condestable, in a ceremony presided over by the special councilor for Equality, Cristina Martínez Dawe. The event is part of the exhibition 'Hemen baditun 14 - Aquí ya 14', which delves into the personality and the work of these 14 women and can be visited until December 20.

With a degree (1959) and PhD (1967) in Philology Romance Languages, Ana María Echaide has been professor and researcher of language Spanish, General Linguistics, language and Basque Linguistics at the University of Navarra. From 1980 until 2002, she directed the Chair of language and Basque Culture of the School of Philosophy y Letras, where she promoted the creation of the Diploma of programs of study Vascos (1994). She has also been director of the department of General Linguistics and representative of the University in the board Permanent of the Society of programs of study Basques (1978-2002). She is a corresponding member of Euskaltzaindia since 1982 and a member of JAKIUNDE since 2009.

Along with Echaide, work , Perpetua Saragueta, Maritxu Viscarret, Feli Setoain, Mikaela Labayen, Petra Azpiroz, Paulina Urkiola, Luzia Goñi, Mikela Gastesi, Ceferina Fontellas, Ana María Echaide, Mirentxu Loyarte, Xole Erbiti, Pakita Zabaleta and Sagrario Alemán were also recognized. In the act they have been given a detail as recognition to their work. The musical part has run to position of the San Fermin Abesbatza Choir.

The sample brings together fourteen women, with different personal and professional profiles, who have developed a work of promotion and normalization of the Basque language in various fields throughout the twentieth century, areas such as teaching and research, music, journalism, writing and bertsolaritza, cinema, administration, trade or conservation of the report and the testimony of the language itself, both in the domestic and public space. The exhibition consists of 15 panels, the first of which is an introduction by sample and the rest with photographs and biographies of the fourteen women recognized for their work in favor of the Basque language. On a screen assistant to the the panels will be able to display audiovisual materials related to some of them. Also, two display cases will be installed in which other materials related to the work in the field of the promotion of the Basque language will be exhibited. Pamplona City Council has published 5,000 copies of the contents of exhibition , which will be on display again at the Casa de las Mujeres at the beginning of the year.
