Carmen Basanta (Pontevedra, 1995) is a 5th year student of the double Degree of Education Primary and Pedagogy. In addition to being a student intern at School of Education and Psychology, she enjoys a scholarship of partnership of the Ministry of Education Culture and Sport. In this interview we get to know her a little better:

How did you hear about scholarship from partnership from the Ministry?

I found out about it thanks to Professor Carmen Urpí, of whom I was an intern last year. We were at contact during the summer working on some projects and at the end of August she sent me the call. We thought it was an opportunity to deepen in my topics of interest and also to receive an economic retribution for this work. The time that I have worked throughout the degree program to pay for my expenses has usually been time that I could not invest in something that I am as passionate about as asking myself questions and looking for answers that can contribute knowledge to society.

What does it mean to be an internal student ? What class advantages does it have?

My parents have always taught us to ask questions at all times and in all places about the world around us. For me, being a boarding student is a financial aid to find answers to the questions I ask myself about the world of Education. Moreover, with the advantage that you are guided by teachers who know a lot and in a more direct way than in the classroom. At final, it is an opportunity to grow staff and professionally.

Do you have to spend a lot of time on it? Would you encourage your peers to be student interns?

To be student intern is enough with 3 hours a week, but the scholarship of the ministry requires more dedication, 15 hours a week. It is true that it is quite a lot of time, but having greater responsibilities forces me to organize myself better to carry them out. Besides, you learn things that you later understand, expand or complement in the subjects, apart from getting to know university life much better.

In your specific case, you are working with Professor Carmen Urpí, what do you do with her?

development activities in the three areas involved in work at the University:

- At research, work on the creative skill of professor and its possibilities to prevent or counteract burn-out or professional burn-out syndrome, so common in our field. In addition, I attend sessions at training for researchers and participate in seminars at group of research VOICES, Voices of Innovation and Creativity in Education and Society, which is coordinated by Professor Urpí.

- At management, I collaborate in different activities, such as the Arts Educate Contest of the subject of Education Plástica, pre-selecting works for the previous Christmas exhibition; I also support the organization of conference or seminars of group VOICES.

- In teaching, I support mainly in the plastic arts workshops in 2nd grade but I have also had the opportunity to work on some specific content and present it later in theoretical sessions; for example, the status of the arts in the school curriculum.
