Around one hundred people attended the first lecture of the Business&Design Cycle given by Tim Karoleff.

The U.S. designer described the skills required for entrepreneurship in the field of design

Almost a hundred people followed the first lecture of the Business&Design Cycle on Thursday, February 9. Half of them came from the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, organizer of the cycle in partnership with the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Navarra (CEN) and the European Business and Innovation Center of Navarra (CEIN). The first guest of this cycle was the North American designer Tim Karoleff, who in a friendly and attractive way explained the keys to being an entrepreneur at design, and focused his speech on the many personal qualities that a designer must have.

Miguel A. Alonso del Val, director of the School, inaugurated the cycle thanking CEN and CEIN for their partnership and highlighted the goal of this first lecture, showing "how the good design, is not only born, but is made and must be developed through a good process of entrepreneurship". 

After highlighting the importance of design both in economic initiatives and in improving the quality of life of society in general, he added: "This cycle represents the ultimate goal of the implementation of Degree of design, to try to generate a business network, a productive fabric around the world of design and activate the existing one. Basically this is one of the great opportunities that the implementation of Degree in design has because its international dimension has the ability to attract to Pamplona people and institutions, designers from around the world that can be a reference letter and help us to develop this map of the world of design in our community".

Tim Karoleff, trained at the University of Cincinnati (Ohio) where he currently teaches class. He has developed his degree program staff and his business project in the world of productdesign , mainly in what he calls "Human Center of Design", putting the design in direct reference letter with the human being, "not only in fundamental aspects of ergonomics, but in something that goes much further and that really makes human activity a center of inspiration and that human activity also having as reference letter the world of nature that suppose for him another of the supports of his design", Miguel A. emphasized during his presentation.

Tim Karoleff focused on 34 skills that an entrepreneurial designer must have and he spent a few minutes on each one, stressing that "you have to be able to do all of them and do them well". Starting with passion, going through empathy, trust, confidence, luck, responsibility, humility, culture, efficiency, authenticity... and ending with love.

Some of the ideas he conveyed to his audience were the importance of "reflecting who you are with your work "; "happy people make happy projects that make people happy", being nice and friendly are also key in the world of entrepreneurship. He placed special emphasis on the opportunities that the Internet provides today for young designers and closed his speech with "Now go, follow your passion, your love, your life, and create".
