The competition, which this year celebrates its first edition, is the continuation of the Navarre History Olympiad.

The University of Navarra has awarded the prizes of the contest "History play. History in 7 minutes" contest, organized by the School of Philosophy and Letters. In its first edition, in which 41 students from nine schools in Navarra participated, the students had to capture the "Overcoming crises throughout history" in 7-minute documentaries.

Beatriz Urmeneta, student of the high school LiceoMonjardín, has obtained the first place in the category of 1st and 2nd of high school diploma, with a documentary about the emigration of Navarre to America, based on a family case. In this modality, have also been awarded Teresa Tabuenca, from Liceo Monjardín (second award); and the group formed by Iago Arregui, Iñigo Huerga, Pelayo Sánchez and Gonzalo Moreira, from high school Irabia-Izaga (third award). Miguel Ayerra, Felipe Fernández and Yoel Agirretxe(Irabia-Izaga) were runners-up.

In the category of 3rd and 4th of ESO, Ana Álvarez Maestro and María Aizpurúa, from high school Miravalles-El Redín, won the first prize award for a work about the tulip crisis of the 17th century. The second prize went to Martín Sánchez Zaragüeta, from high school Nuestra Señora del Huerto; and the third award was awarded to Ricardo Garcés, from I.E.S. Ribera del Arga. Nicolás Sanz Irisarri, also from I.E.S. Ribera del Arga, was awarded a runner-up prize.

In the category of 1st and 2nd ESO, Nora Montes and Beatriz Iribertegui, from high school Jesuitinas, received the second prize award. The third place went to Joan Abad and Mario Roncal, from the same center educational. The first award and the second prize were not awarded.

The works presented ranged from the conflicts in the Byzantine Empire, through those that marked the 20th century, to the Covid-19 pandemic. "In all of them we have observed a great dedication, both on the part of the students and their teachers. Some of them also stand out for the originality of their proposals," says Rocío García Bourrellier, professor of History, Art History and Geography. department of History, Art History and Geography of the academic center and one of the members of the committee organizer. "In their proposals, the students have paid special attention to the way in which each generation has faced all subject of crises, overcoming them with effort, work and creativity," she added.

This competition, which is the continuation of the History Olympiad of Navarra, has by goal contact to put students and teachers of teaching secondary of the region with historians from the University of Navarra. With this new format, we also wanted to show the growing importance of the digital world to narrate history.
