La Puerta Gótica opens "Miradas", by Antonio Oteiza
The art space La Puerta Gótica, at high school Mayor Belagua, has been hosting since Monday 14th January the exhibition "Miradas", pictorial work by the artist Antonio Oteiza, Jorge Oteiza's younger brother. The inauguration was attended by the artist, who starred in a colloquium in which also participated the writer Fidel Aizpúrua, author of a series of texts inspired by the 12 works on display, all related to the gaze of Christ.
Antonio Oteiza (San Sebastian, 1926) is a Capuchin Franciscan and artist, dedicated almost exclusively to sacred art in both sculpture and painting. His art is the result of a religious life and of the contact with nature during the many years that the artist lived as a missionary in the Amazon.
"His figures are not natural, they have the expression of the spiritual soul, they are transcendent, both in the topic and in the expression," explains María Isaba Senosiain, curator of the exhibition. "They break the visual, the subject, they even hurt it, so that the spirit comes out. There it achieves that beauty that communicates the divine, the beauty that becomes a vehicle for truth and goodness," she concludes.
