Ana María Barber Cárcamo, professor emeritus of the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition of the University of Navarra, died today in Pamplona. Ana María Barber, married to Javier Marcotegui and mother of four children, was born in the capital of Navarra (1948). professor of the Schools of Pharmacy and Nutrition, and of Sciences, she was a researcher at the department of Animal Physiology of the University of Navarra. 

thesis Ana Barber graduated in Biological Sciences in 1970, as part of the third class, and defended her doctoral thesis with award extraordinary in 1974, under the direction of professors Francisco Ponz and Rafael Jordana.

She taught the subjects "General Biology", "Human Physiology", "Endocrinology", and "Animal Physiology" in several degrees. Her research activity focused on the study of intestinal absorption of nutrients and the activity, characteristics and regulation of membrane transporters. His work has resulted in more than a hundred scientific publications, numerous communications to congresses, thesis doctoral theses, dissertations and projects Master's Degree.

Between 1992 and 2007 she held the positions of administrative assistant, deputy director and director of department of Animal Physiology. She was also director of doctoral program of Physiology and Food, and publisher in chief of the Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry.

Alberto Pérez-Mediavilla, Dean of the School of Sciences of the University of Navarra, has highlighted the human qualities of Professor Barber: "I enjoyed her as a teacher and as a fellow professor; in both facets the first memory that comes to mind is her kindness, affection and friendliness. In her physiology classes, always with a smiling expression on her face; as a fellow teacher, giving good advice to those of us who were young teachers. We thank God for having been able to enjoy Ana for so many years and her for her contribution to the growth of School of Sciences".

For her part, Marian Zulet, director of department of Food Science and Physiology of the University of Navarra, highlighted "his great coherence, humanity and enormous simplicity, which endeared him to everyone".
