Two Pharmacy students awarded by Chair Tomás Pascual Sanz-University of Navarra

The act of submission coincided with the closing of the V Promotion of the Master's Degree in Food, Nutrition and Metabolism, and the lecture "Nutrition and Sport".

Two students of the School of Pharmacy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics have been awarded in the II edition of the competition organized by the Chair Tomás Pascual Sanz-University of Navarra. They are Elena Gascón Villacampa and Blanca Barriuso Esteban, graduate and future student of the European Master's Degree in Food, Nutrition and Metabolism, respectively.

In the case of the dietician-nutritionist Elena Gascón, from Huesca, the jury of the competition has awarded her work end of Master's Degree of the V edition of postgraduate program, graduate 'Analysis of changes in fat tissue during weight loss', with 1,000 €. The jury highlighted the originality of the hypothesis, the efficient use of resources, the skill to handle applied techniques and the skill of its author in oral and written communication.

Blanca Barriuso, from Pamplona, received a €3,500 scholarship to enroll in the VI edition of postgraduate program. In her case, the Chair has valued "her academic training , the partnership in several Departments of the academic center and her initiative to fill in the training abroad".

The president of high school Tomás Pascual, Ricardo Martí Fluxá; the dean of the School of Pharmacy, Iciar Astiasarán; and the director of Master's Degree, Alfredo Martínez, participated in the submission of awards.

Quantity and quality in an athlete's diet
The closing lecture was given by Alfredo Córdova, position , Full Professor of Physiology at the University of Valladolid, who spoke about the latest developments in nutrition and sport. According to the specialist, when focusing on the per diem expenses of an athlete, two criteria should be taken into account: "The quantitative, referring to the daily caloric intake, which depends on the usual energy expense and the characteristics of the effort made; and the qualitative, in which we will take into account the proportion of nutrients (between 50-60% of carbohydrates, 25-30% of proteins and 11-18% of fats), vitamins and minerals".

Likewise, Full Professor stressed that the timing of meals should be rigorous, adapted to the periods of training, competition and rest. In this context, he also emphasized the importance of proper hydration "before, during and after physical exertion".

The submission awards ceremony coincided with the closing ceremony of the V promotion of the European Master's Degree in Food, Nutrition and Metabolism, which included six students.
