In its ninth edition, the students of the high school Mayor Ayete students are once again organizing the Youth Solidarity Concert. What began as a small project in 2008 grew year after year, until it managed to gather more than 1,600 people in each of its last two editions.

This year the concert will be in the Basilica of Santa María del Coro on Friday, February 24 at 20.00 hours, again with the Orfeón Donostiarra as protagonist. Under the direction of José Antonio Sainz Alfaro and with Gerardo Rifón as organist, the main course of the evening will be the four "Piezas Sacras" ('Quattro Pezzi Sacri') by Verdi. In the first part of the program, six classical pieces will be performed. 'Zadok the priest' (G.F. Haendel), the Lobgesang Symphony No. 2 'Ich harrete des Hern' (F. Mendelsson) with Irene del Molino and Ane Urrutikoetxea as sopranos, 'Nigra sum' (P.Casals), 'Ave Verum' (K. Jenkins) with soprano Leire Saraola and Nora Goyalde as alto, 'Pie Jesu' (A.L. Webber) with sopranos Irati Fernández and Ane Urrutikoetxea and 'Ave Signor' by Mefistofele (A. Boito).

This year, the money raised will go to Caritas Guipuzkoa and Proactiva Open Arms. As every year, half of the profits will go to Cáritas, to be invested in local projects. Among these projects are the day dining room and the night shelter, in which the students of high school Mayor Ayete also collaborate. The other half goes to different projects each year. In the previous edition they were donated to a school for the children of refugees in the town of Ankawa-Erbil in Iraq. The Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq and Jordan, Alberto Ortega, wrote a letter to the organizers and thanked them for their support of Christians in the Middle East.

This year half of the profits will go to Proactiva Open Arms, an NGO from Badalona, whose main mission statement is to rescue from the sea refugees who arrive in Europe fleeing war, persecution or poverty. "There are so many projects to invest in that, unfortunately, every year we have to choose between them", comments José Serrano, in charge of Marketing for the concert.

The organizers of the concert are students from high school Mayor Ayete "It is usually third and fourth grade students from degree program who get involved in the organization of the event. A team is created and then organized into groups and each one is in charge of a part". On this occasion, the team is coordinated by Mexican student Xavier Lebrija, under the supervision of those responsible for the high school Mayor.

The solidarity concert of young people has the partnership of the three universities based in Donostia (UPV, Tecnun-University of Navarra and Deusto), as well as the Orfeón Donostiarra. Tickets are priced at 18, 22, 25 and 30 euros and can be purchased at the high school Mayor Ayete or through the Internet(www.conciertosolidario.org). Those who do not attend the concert can make a donation as Fila Cero in the account ES63 0075 0019 11 0600284814 (concept: Solidarity Concert).
