A classical music concert at theCongress Center and Auditorium of Navarra "Baluarte" will open tomorrow, at 8:00 p.m., the events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Clínica Universidad de Navarrawhich will take place in 2012. The recital will be given at position by the conductor Inma Shara under whose baton will perform the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and as solo violinist the renowned performer Shlomo Mintz.


The proceeds will go entirely to board of trustees "Children against Cancer"a non-profit organization established by the Fundación Universitaria de Navarra. The main objectives of the board of trustees are to finance the main lines of research in children's oncology that are developed in the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, as well as to pay for the treatment of those families who lack resources.

50th anniversary events

The Clínica Universidad de Navarra was founded in 1962. Today, the hospital, multidisciplinary, offers medical care in 35 different specialties, both clinical and surgical, to more than 70,000 patients a year. Its complete offer is based on the work of a staff of more than 2,000 professionals to whom this commemoration is also intended to pay tribute, as well as to all the people who have worked at the Clinic throughout these 50 years.

The history of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra is based on the service to its patients, in whose honor the commemorative events of this 50th anniversary are also being held. Since its beginnings, the work carried out by the hospital center is articulated around a model that integrates attendance, research and teaching at the highest level with the goal priority of achieving excellence in patient care.

Gala: patient videos and concert

The event will be hosted by Vanessa Sánchez, a journalist from EITB, who will first present six patient testimonial videos in which each patient explains in first person what Clínica Universidad de Navarra has meant to him or her. director Next, the following will briefly address the audience: the Clinic's General Director, José Andrés Gómez Cantero, the University of Navarra, Ángel J. Gómez-Montoro, President and the President of the Government of Navarra, Yolanda Barcina. After the speeches, the concert will begin.

The recital program is divided into two parts. In the first part, the following works will be performed: Coriolanus Overture, Op. 62 by Ludwig van Beethoven, Symphonic Prelude by Giacomo Puccini, Aires Gitanos, Op. 20 by Pablo Sarasate (performed by Shlomo Mintz). This will be followed by an intermission (15-20 minutes). The second part will consist of Symphony No. 9 in E minor Op. 95 (New World Symphony) by Antonin Dvorák: I. Adagio - Allegro molto; II. Largo; III. Molto vivace; IV. Allegro con fuoco.

Two congresses and book in 2012

During 2012, and as part of the events to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary, the Clinic will organize a medical and a nursing congress , as well as other activities specially designed to commemorate this anniversary with the Clinic's professionals, their families and the Navarra society in general.

Also, the fiftieth anniversary will have a commemorative book that includes the history of the institution during this half century, its current reality in terms of health care activity, technological innovation, research, training and teaching as well as its future projection.
