The Schools of Medicine and Nursing celebrate the European Day of Cardiac Arrest.
Both centers taught how to perform CPR using the University's cardiopulmonary resuscitation simulators.
The Schools of Medicine and Nursing of the University of Navarra celebrated on October 16 the European Day of Cardiac Arrest, a workshop in which both centers sought to raise awareness of the importance of knowing how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Under the slogan "A society that saves lives", the simulation centers of the Schools took the CPR simulators to the esplanade of the Sciences Building and the hall of the Amigos Building to teach CPR. The event was attended by the Alumni Vice President , Tomás Gómez-Acebo, in addition to the attendance of students, professionals from other Schools, who came to the stages set up for the occasion.
"We would like the entire population to know the basics of CPR," says Dr. Cristina Honorato, deputy director of the Center for Simulation Medicine. "It is a maneuver that would increase the survival rate by 30% in cases of infarction". Elena Merchán, deputy director of the Nursing Simulation Center, added: "We must be aware that most heart attacks occur in the presence of a family member or friend. It is in our hands to save lives.
The three basic steps to follow to perform CPR are: RECOGNIZE that the victim is in arrest (not breathing or unconscious); CALL 112 and follow the instructions given over the phone; and CARDIAC MASSAGE: 30 compressions and two breaths, and repeat.
Prize drawingIn addition, during the session, several prizes were raffled, such as four menus at Rodilla and two menus at the Bi Sisters restaurant in Pamplona, which collaborated with the organization and dissemination of the event, as well as various merchandising material from Schools.
